What is Botox and how does it work?

Botox is a brand name of Botulinum Toxin which is a purified protein used to treat many cosmetic matters. It is injected into the muscle and blocks signals from nerves causing wrinkles to relax and soften. This results in a smooth, firm appearance. Botox is a quick procedure that takes place in the dental chair and requires no anesthetic. Results may vary and can take roughly three to seven days to fully set in.

Most common injection sites in our office include:

• Forehead
• Corner of the eyes (“crow’s feet”)
• Glabella (above and between the eyebrows)
• Corner of the lips (frown lines)

 

How long does Botox last?

Approximately 3-6 months depending on the person and their personal habits. As muscle action starts to return, you will notice wrinkles reappearing and can consider being treated again in our office.
